/ Campaigns / 2008-2011 Campaign / Red Light 2010 - South Africa / ... Awareness Raising
The Awareness Raising Campaign, which aims to develop and strengthen networking and partnerships geared towards reinforcing sub-regional and national actions, will be structured on three major pillars:
- development of SANTAC/WLSA pro-active working relations with the national media (radio, TV and PRESS) in order to mobilize interest at local and
regional levels;
- promotion and support of children’s participation in the campaign and communities empowerment;
- enhancement of inter-governmental co-operation and of social partners/NGOs collaboration.
The three major components are inter-related and mutually supportive. Standing alone, each one has an equally important role to play in moving the campaign to eliminate trafficking in women and children forward. Together, they create a powerful synergic force that can enhance awareness and social mobilization. Their integrated action - aimed at producing concrete behavioral changes - includes the active involvement of NGOs and academic/educational institutions. Supportive political leadership is a key factor for sustainable results.
Effective elimination of trafficking in women and children is possible if approached on multiple fronts, both at global and local levels.
